Section 5: Self Discipline

  • 2 Timothy 1:7 AMP For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.
  • Galatians 5:23 AMP Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].
  • 2 Peter 1:6 AMP And in [exercising] knowledge [develop] self-control, and in [exercising] self-control [develop] steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in [exercising] steadfastness [develop] godliness (piety),
  • Psalm 138:3 AMP In the day when I called, You answered me; and You strengthened me with strength (might and inflexibility to temptation) in my inner self.
  • Titus 2:6 AMP In a similar way, urge the younger men to be self-restrained and to behave prudently [taking life seriously].
  • Titus 2:2 AMP Urge the older men to be temperate, venerable (serious), sensible, self-controlled, and sound in the faith, in the love, and in the steadfastness and patience [of Christ].
  • 1 Peter 4:7 AMP But the end and culmination of all things has now come near; keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for [the practice of] prayer.

Self-discipline will enable you to do things that you never thought possible with your life.

You have to understand that it is your choice to have self-discipline or not.

Once you have made the choice to walk in self-discipline; you then must develop a plan to learn and gain it.

A person of destiny, a self-disciplined person, has a plan for each day and each day they move to completing that plan.

Self-discipline will enable you to make the necessary changes in your lifestyle to walk in your destiny. You will find out that you have the inner strength to make the decisions, where at one time you were not strong enough.

You have to have the self-discipline to work on your strengths and allow them to lead you on the path of your destiny.

When you take the path less traveled then you will begin to develop self-discipline.

By using self-discipline you can replace the negative with positive. When you start believing the positive things about yourself you will see yourself and others in a new and better perspective.

Self-discipline is simple in definition; it is being able to control our words, thoughts, actions, and emotions no matter what the situation is that we are facing at the time.

Having self-discipline makes it possible for us to do the things that we just don’t want to do. It enables us to get up and do things that others don’t do or put off doing that move us closer and closer to our destiny.

Self-discipline will enable you to recognize your emotions and your attitude toward those emotions. This will in turn make it possible for you to control and use your emotions and attitudes to your benefit and for other’s benefit as well.

Self-discipline means that you are now able to recognize the things in their lives that are harmful; whether mentally, physically, or spiritually. Sometimes you have to say, “No,” to things that are fun but are not good for you.

People that have self-discipline and are destiny minded are constantly trying to better themselves. They are always looking for ways to strengthen their character and their integrity.

One thing that will stop you from achieving self-discipline is fear. Fear is one thing that will stop most anything you do. Never allow fear to stop you from achieving your goal of self-discipline or your destiny.

You are the only person that can be responsible for your decisions and self-discipline; then ultimately your destiny. For you to make the right decisions on a consistent basis and reach your destiny; you will have to have self-discipline, no way around it.

At least 90% of having self-discipline is simply having the courage to do what is right.

The road to destiny is too rough and steep to climb if you don’t have the self-discipline operating in your life day in and day out, when you feel like it and especially when you don’t feel like it.

Self-discipline is what keeps you going when you are tired and don’t feel like going on any farther. When you are tired mentally and physically you will have to depend on your self-discipline to keep you on track to your destiny.

A word to the wise; those with self-discipline, don’t listen to those who complain and make excuses about giving up and quitting, don’t listen to those that can’t hack it and don’t have the fortitude to continue on. It is easy to quit, complain, and give up; at least to those that don’t have self-discipline. It is nearly impossible to get a person that has paid the price of self-discipline to complain, make excuses, give up and quit. When you have worked hard it is hard to quit.

If you are going to be successful and operate at consistently at a high level then you must develop and use self-discipline.
